IWC's collaboration with Mercedes-AMG began in 2004. As one of the longest-standing car-watch collaborations, IWC became the “Official Engineering Partner” of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1™ team as early as 2013, and witnessed the Mercedes team win eight team championships from 2014 to 2021. The IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XX Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 IW328210 is based on the Mark XX. The Mark series of watches, based on the Mark 10 military watch born during World War II, has been continuously updated over the years, until the latest iteration of the Pilot’s Watch Mark watch was released in 2022, which has been continued to the Mark XX. But after the launch of the new Mark XX series, IWC temporarily only provided a few regular stainless steel models, until the Mark XX Swiss Air Patrol titanium limited edition watch released in August last year, and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1™ Team special edition watch at the beginning of this year, enriching the Mark XX product line with two new titanium works, giving watch friends a new choice of innovative materials.
The 40mm case is 10.6mm thick, which is suitable for most watch friends' wrists. The case uses matte sandblasted titanium. IWC pilot watches are basically matte modified. This is also due to the actual needs of pilots. After all, IWC flight watches are generally the same as those worn by pilots, so the possibility of glare caused by polished surfaces is avoided as much as possible. This is also applicable to F1 racers and busy engineers and technicians in the P room. The waterproof performance of the watch is fully improved to 100 meters.
The classic cockpit instrument style black dial, all indication designs, including hour markers, hands, minute track, triangle logo, and calendar display numbers, are embellished with the Mercedes team's iconic Petronas green. This emerald green color also makes the Mark XX's main functional practicality, easy to read display, and more clear and intuitive. Moreover, the Petronas green is matched with the light gray luster of the titanium metal case, and the sharp contrast brought by the superimposed black dial is easily reminiscent of the silver arrow paint of the Mercedes-Benz racing car. The hour hand, minute hand, and the important 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions, including the triangle logo, are coated with Super-LumiNova® luminous coating. The picture above is a real shot of the luminous effect of the watch.
The watch adopts a dense bottom design, and the back of the watch is engraved with a small hexagonal icon and the words "Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1™ Team". The internal movement is equipped with IWC's self-made 32111 automatic winding movement, which comes from Richemont's Val Fleurier movement factory and is one of IWC's current main movements. It is also used in other IWC watches, such as Ingenieur, Portofino, and the current Aquatimer. The performance is quite outstanding in practice. The 25.6-diameter movement has a 5-day, 120-hour ultra-long power reserve, and also allows the watch to control its thickness. Watch friends may not mention the daily error standard of IWC movements much now, but it is actually higher than the COSC standard. IWC is 0 to +7 seconds, so I also agree with some watch friends who say that 32111 is above the industry standard.
