The most eye-catching highlight of this watch is the fully luminous white dial. This dial was developed by IWC for the “Ace of Spades” special edition, and the manufacturing process is exquisite and complex. First, the advanced Super-LumiNova® fluorescent coating pigments and adhesives are mixed, poured into a round mold, and then hardened through a specially developed curing process to give the material the durability of ceramics. The formed solid dial is then fixed to the soft iron dial blank. Finally, black scales, numbers and a badge resembling the "Ace of Spades" pattern in playing cards are printed on the dial. In the darkroom test, the dial was able to continuously emit bright green light for more than 23 hours, bringing the readability and nighttime visibility of the watch to a new level.
Super-LumiNova® fluorescent coating is a high-tech ceramic compound that works like a light storage battery. By absorbing light energy from sunlight or artificial light sources, the electrons in the material enter a higher energy state and store energy. When the electron returns to its normal state, the absorbed energy is emitted as visible light, making it glow in the dark. The material can absorb and release light energy repeatedly indefinitely without aging or diminishing its light storage capacity.
