The new watch combines IWC's SPRIN-g PROTECT® shock absorption protection system with a craft design inspired by the team's representative colors black and PETRONAS green. The spring that protects the movement from extreme gravity is coated with the team's iconic PETRONAS green Super-LumiNova® luminous coating, which shines in the dark.

The SPRIN-g PROTECT® patented shock absorption protection system was developed by IWC's experimental engineering department (IWC Experimental) and was first used in the Big Pilot's Shock Absorber XPL watch (model: IW357201) in 2021. At the heart of the system is a cantilever spring that cushions the movement, taking its shock protection to a new level. If a watch is hit, the movement and case are usually also subjected to extremely high G-forces. The spring absorbs most of the force before it is transmitted to the movement. The spring is specially designed to distribute the pressure evenly over its entire length and width and is made from a single block of metallic glass (BMG). Thanks to a complex manufacturing process, this advanced material has significantly higher elasticity than conventional crystalline metals.

Case and crown in Ceratanium®. This advanced material developed by IWC combines the lightness and hardness of titanium and is also as scratch-resistant as ceramic. The black dial has a granular finish and is stamped onto the brass baseplate using a special tool. The newly designed triangular black hands are coated with Super-LumiNova® on the edge area. The outer ring with the minute scale appears to float on the sheet surrounding the dial, giving the effect of free suspension.

The IW356201 watch is equipped with the IWC 32101 self-made movement, equipped with a two-way pawl automatic winding system and a 120-hour power reserve. The splint, bridge and rotor are all blackened to match the overall all-black design of the watch. Through the sapphire glass case back lens with Toto Wolff's signature, you can appreciate the exquisite design of the movement. The watch is paired with an integrated Petronas green rubber strap and comes with a black rubber strap.
